‘Sindy & The Girlfriends’ are stamping their go-go boots all over Hull’s music scene.
Onstage, they continue to fascinate their ever-growing fan base, but in the darkness of their ‘flower-delivery-cum-touring-van’ the cracks begin to show how the strains of stardom are affecting them all.
A new musical inspired by Hull’s own 1960’s girl-band, ‘Mandy & The Girlfriends’. She Productions was approached by Ensemble 52 and Heads Up Festival in 2015 about using the story of ‘Mandy & The Girlfriends’ to inspire the writing of a new musical. Since then, She Productions has been lucky enough to be handed the creative baton to develop the show using their own collaborative style.
The piece aims to capture the essence of life for the band as they took on Hull’s ‘pubs and clubs’ scene, whilst battling with the difficulties of being a group of teenage girls under the pressures of the entertainment industry and life itself, not unlike the world today. With original music, fusing the catchy 60’s rhythms with our narrative, we are developing this exciting new musical as a group of young female creatives just like ‘Mandy & The Girlfriends’ were doing nearly 60 years ago.
Watch this space for further updates as we continue to develop the show.
Performing at Heads Up Festival, Hull, October 2016.
